Head Chef Shane Veivers (ex-Ristorante La Famiglia) leads the team at Persone, the Gambaro family’s modern Italian eatery in the W Brisbane.
A tiled central pillar dominates the large circular dining room that affords some tables panoramic views across the Brisbane River. Stylish furnishings, splashes of greenery and a covered terrace make for a pleasant venue.
The menu is mostly classic Italian dishes, with a good selection of antipasti, entrees, mains and pizzas, and plenty of gluten-free and/or dairy-free options, too. Perhaps start with salumi misti – delicate prosciutto, sliced salami and mortadella with canned artichokes, marinated baby chillies and a deep-fried bocconcini, all drizzled with olive oil. If you opt for the grilled market fish, then it may be barramundi, cooked so the flesh is tender and the skin is crispy, and served with asparagus and peas. Meat eaters may prefer another Italian favourite, the cotoletta alla Milanese: a crumbed veal cutlet served with lemon and rocket.
PSST! You can enjoy one of Persone’s pizzas sitting at the cocktail bar, with uninterrupted views.
