Peacock Gardens Restaurant is a Crows Nest institution. Chef and restaurateur Mathew Chan opened his restaurant in 1975 and is still doing the rounds 42 years later, serving consistently traditional Chinese cuisine. Inside the restaurant, the crisp white tablecloths and well-dressed waiters contrast with the framed football shirts and signed cricket bats … but it works!
Everyone has a favourite classic Chinese dish and Peacock Gardens Restaurant nails most of these dishes. It is said that Chef Chan was the first to introduce san choi bao to Australia, so you have to try this as a starter. Served individually by the waiters, the meat is tender and fragrant and the lettuce shell is crisp and crunchy – yum! Lamb pancakes are a crowd-pleaser and the thin pancakes, chunks of soft onion and tender lamb dripping in hoisin goodness will impress the table.
PSST! A great place to celebrate Chinese New Year with live dance and drum performances.
