Nithik’s Kitchen is owned and operated by Chef Vikram Arumugam and his wife Preeti, who named their establishment after their son.
The decor and furnishings are bright, colourful, meaningful and well kept, reflecting the couple’s attitude toward their food and heritage. The staff are polite and welcoming, which adds to the homey feel.
The food embraces the cuisine of Chettinad, offering dishes that reflect the region’s history. An interesting starter is the samuthiram, which features West Australian blue swimmer crab tossed with fennel, ginger, chilli and shallots. This tasty combination is served in pathiri (rice flour pancake) with kanja eral thoku (dried shrimp cooked with caramelised onion, tomato and chilli reduction) and then garnished with crispy fried school prawns. A classic dish that is done extremely well is the chicken makhani – chargrilled chicken cooked in a well-balanced and complex spiced sauce of tomato, cashew and honey, finished with cream and kasuri methi (dried fenugreek leaves).
