A fun and frivolous venue on Chapel Street, Mr. Miyagi is a gregarious hangout with loud music pumping in the background. Head Chef Kyle Doody serves traditional Japanese food with awesomely quirky twists. Everything is fabulously hip, from the interesting graffiti on the walls to the bright pink neon signs. Dressed up Gen Ys fill the tables.
‘All tastes good’ claims the menu – and the menu is right! Salmon nori taco is a delicious highlight. A crispy nori roll is deep-fried so that it looks like a taco; it is then filled with grilled salmon belly, sushi rice, spicy napa cabbage, Japanese mayo and chilli oil. Tuna takaki pizza is an interesting variation on an Italian favourite. Spiced flatbread is topped with slices of rare-seared tuna, yuzu Caesar cream, colourful heirloom tomatoes and spicy jalapeños.
PSST! If you want a memento, such as a hat, there’s a dedicated section on the menu entitled ‘Mr. M’s Overpriced Stuff You Don’t Need’.
