Executive Chef Jason Oven (formerly of the Grand Hyatt Melbourne) offers a menu that is modest yet well constructed. His contemporary dishes deliver on balance and accessibility for both the seasoned restaurant-goer and the occasional diner. Located close to Crown Towers, Mr. Hive Kitchen & Bar is the perfect location for a mid-week bite, client lunch or group dinner. With a moody atmosphere, the restaurant is dimly lit and decorated with sculptural light shades and other artworks.
The menu includes a choice of classic dishes that have been given a modern spin. Chilli cornbread with honey butter is an intriguing starter. The bread has great texture, moistness and flavour, while the honeycomb crumble atop the butter provides a delicious sweet crunch. Lamb rump with carrot, sugar snaps and hazelnut is beautifully plated, and features meat that is perfectly cooked and well seasoned. The hazelnuts are served two ways – pureed and crumbed – and the latter adds a wonderful texture and saltiness to the dish.
PSST! Save some room for one of the fresh and fruity desserts, from mandarin cheesecake and banana fondant to green apple mousse.
