To survive as long as Moda has in the competitive Brisbane CBD market is testament to the talent and quality of Chef Javier Codina’s cooking. His creative yet hearty home-style cuisine harks back to his Spanish/Catalan heritage.
The large covered courtyard is light and airy and has a Mediterranean feel. A large tiled bar at the back serves cocktails. A good selection of Spanish and French wines is available by the glass – poured at the table. The service is friendly, casual and efficient.
The food is fresh and generous. Local Hervey Bay scallops, served in the shell, are lightly grilled on one side, soft and succulent, contrasting with salty caviar and a mixed salad of onion and stone fruit. A double-baked blue cheese soufflé is soft, delicate and rich with a strong piquant cheese flavour complemented by a pear and walnut salad. Tender pieces of suckling pig with a delicate crispy skin are served on mashed root vegetables with carrots, grilled peaches and an exquisite orange–vanilla sauce.
PSST! Chef Codina cooks his signature paella for Friday lunch only – well worth a visit!
