Stephen Mercer is an award-winning chef who has worked with some of the best culinary experts in Europe and Australia. He opened Mercer’s Restaurant with his wife, Ute, back in 1997. Driving through leafy Eltham, you could easily confuse Mercer’s Restaurant with a Federation-era home. Thick carpets, grey walls, soft lighting and eclectic artwork create a very cosy atmosphere.
The dishes are driven by the seasons, and diners can choose between a well-thought-out à la carte menu or an intriguing degustation menu. Begin your meal with the crispy skin pork belly. It is served on an interesting pig ear gel, along with sautéed scallops and an apple and mustard emulsion. Smoked beef fillet has an intense aroma, and the meat is served on a bed of cabbage and carrot brunoise. It comes with oxtail lasagnette and a black pepper and onion sauce.
PSST! Le Grand Dessert for two includes a selection of the restaurant’s desserts, served on a sharing platter.
