You can easily walk past Chef Daniel Stewart’s mod-taqueria on this tight, frantic section of Pitt Street, which would be a shame, since his vision for a Mexican experience is at once brash, bold and completely fascinating, blending street and market scenes to create a great vibe. With a towering cocktail shelf and great attention to decor, Méjico CBD is a popular after-work spot or for starting a night out.
For a Mexican experience, you should start off with guacamole, naturally – smashed at your table as hot or zingy as you want it. Then perhaps order the jalapeño poppers or luxe tostadas of albacore tuna tartar, tapioca pearls and avocado. For something a little different, try the bone marrow salsa – prepared with guajillo and ancho chillis and served with a chilli-pressed flour tortilla. Adobo-grilled lamb rump with chimichurri and pink onions is everything you’d wish for: smoky, sweet and perfectly tender.
PSST! There’s a new outlet in Miranda – lucky you, if you’re a local!
