Acclaimed chef/restaurateur Scott Pickett (Estelle and Matilda 159 Domain) has gutted his Smith Street venture St Crispin to create a new and exciting Italian-inspired eatery – Lupo. And he’s secured a talented duo to head up the kitchen: Executive Chef Stuart McVeigh and Head Chef Charlie Watson.
Inside is rustic and buzzy with creaky wooden floors, exposed brick walls and drop-down lights. Watch the chefs in action in the open kitchen or pull up a pew at the gorgeous bar.
Lupo fits snugly with the Collingwood hipster vibe with an inventive menu that delights. Tuck into Port Phillip octopus, served on a creamy aioli, with native finger lime delivering zingy pops in each bite. Follow with the signature spanner crab lasagne – an outstanding dish featuring layers of thin pasta with a crab filling engulfed in a bubbly emulsion, a subtle basil oil, sunrise lime and a seared scallop. Secondi include a baby quail on a creamy polenta with golden raisins and balls of fregola.
PSST! Don’t be afraid to try some interesting natural wines – the sommelier will guide you through the selection.
