Hayes St Wharf Bistro is run by Chef Gavin Tuckwell (ex-The Bather’s Pavilion and La Grillade) and his wife, Natasha.
The restaurant is the definition of a traditional neighbourhood gem. It is often full of Neutral Bay locals, with the chocolate tones of the interior making the space welcoming and warm.
Uniquely French and Italian inspired – a combination that is not often seen – the dishes have a bistro flair and a depth of flavours that make for a memorable meal. To start, try the toasted baguette slices with possibly the best truffle butter you will ever try. Light, fluffy and incredibly flavoursome, the scallop and crab boudin blanc comes served in a rich crab bisque and topped with avruga caviar. As a main, the wagyu brisket is hard to pass up. The meat melts in the mouth, and the speck adds a lovely smoky undertone; this beefy decadence is served on a bed of truffle mash along with red wine jus.
PSST! It’s hard to find a restaurant with such well-executed food that allows BYO.
