The mastermind behind Chin Chin and Kong, Benjamin Cooper has now added a Malaysian/Singaporean venue to his empire. Head Chef Damian Snell oversees the running of the kitchen, ensuring the hawker-style food is authentic and flavoursome. Inside the massive dining space there are bright neon signs, a large bar, an open kitchen and a DJ pumping out the latest tunes.
The vibrant street food is delicious and designed to be shared. Malay shredded chicken salad comes with crunchy pieces of toasted coconut sambal, fresh bean shoots and hints of coriander. It’s a great way to start your meal. Served on a bed of well-cooked rice and bok choy, Hainanese barbecue chicken is a highlight of the menu. It is accompanied by an aromatic soup with notes of star anise, plus chilli sauce that you can use to spice up your chicken.
PSST! Hawker Hall has an impressive number of Victorian beers on tap, including Napoleone Helles lager and Mornington porter.
