Hampton & Maley is the first foray into casual dining for husband-and-wife team Hadleigh and Carolynne Troy, whose much-loved Restaurant Amuse had been a staple of the local dining scene since 2007.
Weekend brunch brings families to relax at blond-timber tables with comfortable Eames-style chairs. Decor is minimalist with a muted green feature wall, while a black and timber panelled ceiling does its best to calm the happy din reflected back from the polished concrete floors. Outdoor tables offer a quieter option and plenty of space.
The menu is far from the usual café staples, with gorgeous delights such as blue swimmer crab omelette with herbs, spices and sourdough. Meanwhile, the black pudding with fermented chilli scrambled eggs, pickled apple and crispy cabbage is a clear reflection of Chef Troy’s time at some of London’s leading establishments. Pumpkin and carrots with coconut yoghurt, pepita seeds, capers and raisins is a rich and filling dish.
PSST! Children are not just catered for, but are openly welcomed, as are dogs and bikes in the outdoor section.
