Zach Tang and Jacqui Ektoros (owner and chef respectively) have created a modern and fun café menu that showcases their fine dining background in a more approachable and affordable way. This casual café boasts a bright, sun-filled front dining room, with a communal table and bar stools overlooking Devonshire Street. Down the hallway and past the kitchen, there’s a larger, but cosy back dining room, perfect for couples and groups.
The playful, inventive menu at Devon Cafe steers away from the predictable, with clever interpretations of breakfast and lunch dishes. It may be oddly named, but Breakfast with the Sakuma’s is a standout dish. A generous portion of king salmon is served with a crunchy smoked eel croquette, 63-degree egg, Kewpie mayonnaise and a fresh radish salad. The ultimate toastie comprises two slices of sourdough toast topped with a very generous portion of gently sautéed mixed mushrooms, melted gruyère and two ‘sunny side up’ eggs. In truffle season, Chef Ektoros tops the toastie with shaved truffles.
