Owner Susheel Kumar came to Australia from Delhi two years ago. He recruited chef Robin Shaotha from his home town and set up this authentic Delhi restaurant. As you enter, you are warmly welcomed and shown to your table set with a starched white tablecloth and gold-plated cutlery. Pappadums with condiments are served as the menu is presented to you.
Delhi By the way brings authentic northern Indian food to Sydney. Spices are ground and mixed in-house providing great depth of flavour to the dishes. The mixed starter platters (choice of vegetarian or meat) are plenty for two, showing the range of well-executed and perfectly spiced dishes. The vegetable samosas are a standout – a moist filling of peas, potato and cauliflower encased in a crispy, thin shell. The generously sized mains offer a good selection of vegetarian dishes, familiar staples like chicken tikka and beef vindaloo, as well as Delhi specials. The dishes tend to be milder here, so check with the staff if you prefer your dishes fiery.
PSST! Check out the placemats! There are interesting stories about Delhi and its history.
