Acclaimed Chef Andrew McConnell has many ventures around town, but his only fine dining establishment – Cutler & Co. – is a poised point of difference.
Located in a recently renovated former metalworks factory on Gertrude Street, inside is a mix of formal yet cosy, industrial yet warm, with decadent leather seats and dark carpeting.
Cutler & Co.’s à la carte menu focuses on produce and changes daily. An elegant plate of grilled cuttlefish is topped with sliced green olive, espelette aioli and fresh, crisp fennel – every bite delivers delicate flavours. Vibrant purple and golden heirloom beetroot sit atop a silky tahini with a pop of sunflower seeds and cleansing red mizuna. Wonderfully tender fillets of roasted rainbow trout come with a king brown mushroom and softly cooked eggplant. Salt-baked chicken has a crisp skin, served simply with wild garlic, broad beans and confit lemon, while a pink lamb loin is paired with a braised rib, baby turnip and earthy green kale.
