Claire’s Kitchen at Le Salon is a traditional French brasserie with a modern twist. French-born Marc Kuzma (whose alter ego Claire de Lune has appeared in numerous TV gigs) delivers well-executed classic French dishes.
Located on Oxford Street, the restaurant is usually busy and buzzing, a great reflection on its location. Inside, the glamorous dining room is carefully decorated in decadent French chic with lofty ceilings, chandeliers and Louis XV chairs.
The menu is made up of traditional French favourites, such as twice-cooked soufflé, snails and chicken Maryland. The entree of steak tartare is beautifully presented with the yolk in a hollowed-out eggshell perched on top of the meat. Or perhaps you’d prefer the fresh, light mushroom mousse, its delicious creaminess teamed with the crunch of a parmesan tuile. As a main, the braised Moroccan lamb shoulder, shredded then wrapped in filo pastry, is a memorable dish. Served on a bed of couscous sprinkled with pomegranate, pistachio and mint, it is seasoned perfectly and beautifully presented.
