City Wine Shop is exactly that, a wine shop in the city. However the hospitality team behind this little gem also reign over the European, Melbourne Supper Club, Siglo and Neapoli Wine Bar – all very successful operations.
City Wine Shop is a small dining room with a communal table located at the rear of the wine shop. The idea is to select your favourite plonk in the shop and crack it open out the back with one of the classic dishes on the menu.
Great pasta options are ideal for a quick lunch. These include orecchiette with beef ragu, spaghetti with meatballs and gnocchi with mushrooms, zucchini, kale, walnuts, cantalet and chilli. Popular dishes are a traditional tuna niçoise and the City Wine Shop’s famous schnitzel with Italian coleslaw. A more substantial option is the 200g aged topside steak with roasted cauliflower, parsley mash and porcini and truffle butter.
PSST! Sign up to the City Wine Shop’s newsletter – it regularly offers subscribers great deals and unique access to some rare and hard-to-find wines and champagnes. They also offer excellent wine-tasting events.
