Jake Nicolson is passionate about whole beast cookery and is an expert on the Inferno wood grill, serving up some of Brisbane’s best steaks and complementary dishes.
With a great open view across the river of the Story Bridge, the decor is a mix of booths and tables in a bold interior. Old school service is friendly and knowledgeable.
The menu focuses on oysters, shellfish and steaks cooked on the signature Inferno 96 Wood Grill but with plenty of options to suit most palates. Rabbit ravioli is a single plump ravioli dumpling full of shredded rabbit meat. It is topped with soft marinated raisins and served on a bed of diced vegetables and beans, with a warm salty consommé added at the table. A great blend of flavours – rich and earthy with some sweetness. The grilled kangaroo loin is cooked medium–rare, served on a bed of mustard greens – a mix of earthy and bitter flavours, teamed with a small pie of shredded tail in a sweet riberry sauce.
PSST! Blackbird has an excellent bar overlooking the river with a smaller bar menu and a great cocktail list.
