Chef Hannah Willmott overseas the preparation of Bill Granger’s winning menu of fresh, simply prepared, delicious modern food.
The restaurant recently moved next door, to the larger former premises of Marque, seemingly without missing a beat. In the daylight, the decor is the colour of a lovely sunrise: soft apricot with gold detailing. There are Art Deco references in the curved cabinetry and lacquered tables, while seating is on comfortable banquettes or rattan chairs. The smiling, friendly staff seem to have as much fun as the customers.
bills is known for its scrumptious breakfasts, brunches and lunches, and the famous corn fritters certainly don’t disappoint: golden brown patties of succulent corn kernels in a light, crisp batter resting on baby spinach leaves and topped with bacon and grilled tomato, with a dollop of rough avocado salsa the icing on the cake. Another mouth-watering option is the house-made gravlax served on thin sourdough crostini smeared with cream cheese and garnished with paper-thin slices of radish and fresh coriander and dill.
