Chef Marco Bonanni has been with Banjo Paterson Cottage Restaurant for many years now.
Sitting among five acres of land is an historic sandstone cottage that was once home to Australian literary icon Banjo Paterson. He would have loved the food and service today and perhaps written a poem! The dining space is divided into areas and smaller rooms for a more intimate meal.
While the menu is contemporary, Chef Bonanni’s culinary background is Italian cuisine, so needless to say, he does a wonderful entree of house-made gnocchi. This is served with a rabbit and chicken ragu and finished with gremolata and lashings of grana padano. For mains, and for something truly Australian, try the kangaroo. Chargrilled then rested, the meat is then sliced to reveal its medium–rare doneness. The game meat is served with parsnip and potato puree, grilled artichoke, rosemary–red wine jus and artichoke chips.
PSST! If you are after a table with a view, it is advisable to secure your preferred seating early, as they are quickly snapped up.
