Kimitaka Azuma established his namesake restaurant more than 20 years ago, and it is recognised as one of the top Japanese restaurants, cementing the reputation of both his craft and his establishment. Azuma is located in the CBD, conveniently close to night-time parking in Chifley car park. Dim, warm lighting welcomes and guides guests to their seats.
The restaurant’s private room is exceptionally good. Chef Azuma’s cuisine has a solid foundation in kaiseki, and there is a highly skilled sushi chef manning the sushi counter. There’s also an extensive à la carte menu, but the omakase option of seven delicious courses is a great way to sample the range. Start with the Azuma-style ‘amuse-bouche’ and enjoy six bite-sized seasonal delicacies, followed by the selection of unique sashimi. Then it’s on to the more substantial dishes, including grilled scampi, grilled duck breast, seared salmon nigiri, grilled teriyaki wagyu and prawn and vegetable tempura. Complete your feast with a yummy dessert.
