If you have been lucky enough to enjoy pizza in its native surroundings, you’ll know just how close Chef Francesco Spataro’s pizzas come to those in Italy. Aperitivo is eclectic in its design with a blackboard wall, plywood mural, dark bar and splashes of deep red from the funky chairs. With high casual bar tables, a street-front terrace and upstairs room for groups, there’s a nook for every occasion.
Accredited by the Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana, Aperitivo offers 20 choices of pizza. Purists simply cannot go past the margherita, which combines sweet San Marzano tomatoes with mozzarella and basil. Reflecting the colours of the Italian flag, the generous topping is barely contained on the paper-thin, black, blistered crust, and one mouthful conjures up the pleasures of an Italian holiday. Other tempting options include antipasti, pasta dishes, and fish, meat and risotto of the day.
PSST! Leave room for the desserts like boozy tiramisu and dark wild cherry semifreddo.
