Describing its style as ‘modern Asian’, alphabet st’s food is largely northern Thai-inspired. The one-page menu features a list of imaginative bites, snacks or starters, a couple of salads, and mains.
Being located on a busy strip of restaurants leading down to the beach, the restaurant has a friendly casual feel to match the location.
Most of the dishes are designed for sharing, and the friendly, knowledgeable staff will explain the menu and help you with your selection. The betel leaf with prawn and coconut is a must-try – it ignites all the senses and perfectly balances sweet, sour, salty and hot. Another beautifully balanced starter is the roti murtabak, a crisp and flaky envelope of chicken with a peanut dipping sauce and a fresh cucumber pickle. If slow-cooked sweet tamarind beef short rib is the daily special, then you’ll be treated to a generous portion of falling-off-the-bone beef in a rich, sweet sauce matched with a fresh green papaya salad.
PSST! If booking for lunch, be sure to ask for an outside table to ensure a view of the beach.
