Following the success of Worksmith’s Collingwood community and co-working space, the team has opened its second Melbourne location.
Worksmith ELLA is located above the newly opened food-hub, ELLA, just 100m from Melbourne Central in the heart of the CBD. This second hub for Melbourne’s hospitality community encourages its members to make mutually beneficial connections to deepen their knowledge and awareness of the industry.
Like the Collingwood original, Worksmith ELLA has been designed specifically for those in the food, beverage and hospitality sectors. This new Worksmith location is also home to a purpose-built drinks lab for creative experimentation and production. The drinks lab is designed and managed by Worksmith Beverage Director and Diageo World Class Global Bartender of the Year 2018, Orlando Marzo.
The Worksmith team helped to co-curate the collection of dining options at the newly constructed ELLA food hub, which is situated directly below the co-working space. It will soon be home to some of its members’ venues such as The Fermentary, a new CBD location for Blackhearts & Sparrows independent wine store and Byrdi, a new cocktail bar from Luke Whearty, responsible for Singapore’s Operation Dagger, which currently sits at No.23 in the
Worksmith ELLA provides a shared workspace for a host of professionals from journalists and designers to creatives and tech startups and permanent private office spaces for companies such as Four Pillars Gin, ALM and The Fermentary. A private boardroom and breakout space is available to all members along with access to Worksmith’s ever-expanding events program of talks, briefings and workshops. Members have free use of the La Marzocco coffee machine, using Five Senses coffee and a fridge permanently stocked with CAPI sparkling, Stomping Ground Beers and Unico Zelo wines.
Co-founder Michael Bascetta comments: “I’ve worked on the front line of this industry for around 10 years, and while it’s a lot of fun, there is a serious business side to it. With Worksmith we’ve endeavoured to create a space that helps the hospitality community. We serve as a base to work and a place for collaboration, and have proved this concept with our original Collingwood location.”
“Melbourne’s food and beverage scene is increasingly being recognised as one of the best in the world. Worksmith is supporting startups and young businesses by providing a space which will help our community retain that global recognition.”
Designed by Chris James Studio, the warm and engaging space is filled with natural materials, including slate flooring throughout and warm blackbutt timber tables and bar tops referencing native Australian textures.
