Red Spice Road proud to announce Sungeun Mo as new Head Chef

After 4 years as an integral member of the kitchen team, Red Spice Road is very proud to appoint Sungeun Mo as new Head Chef.

Born and raised in Korea, Mo kicked off her culinary career working in many of Korea’s best restaurants, across a range of cuisines, before she moved to Australia and joined the Red Spice Road team. Her high level of passion and skill was quickly realised, and she was rapidly promoted through the kitchen ranks, ultimately leading to her newly appointed and well-deserved role as Head Chef of Red Spice Road.

 

Mo may be known for her humble ways and quiet confidence, but her skill in the kitchen is impossible to hide. Mo and her passionate team of chefs share a combined excitement for the new chapter that lies ahead, which will see Red Spice Road relocate to its new home at 141 Queen Street in October.

 

As well as this new exciting location, Mo will be introducing a fresh à la carte menu. Some of the new stars on the menu will be: 

· Roasted snapper with betel, kaffir lime leaf, snake beans and tobiko roe

· Grilled scallop, coconut-mustard sauce

· Green curry with young jackfruits and asparagus

· Spicy Korean BBQ beef ribs

· Tofu and black vinegar stir-fry with lotus roots, snow peas and king oyster mushrooms

The famous Red Spice Road pork belly many Melburnians have grown to love and devour will be staying on the menu, and will be moving to the new venue!

 

“With the upcoming relocation of Red Spice Road to the new premises on Queen Street, it was very important for us to ensure we had the right creative team in the kitchen. After a long process of interviewing candidates from all over the world, Mo clearly stood out as the best chef to lead the team. Mo has been a driving force in the Red Spice Road kitchen for many years now and we’re excited to officially recognise her fantastic culinary and leadership talents by appointing her our new head chef.

The new Red Spice Road location is the former FGY Art Gallery at 141 Queen Street, a two-minute stroll from the current McKillop Street restaurant. Featuring full-length windows and cathedral ceilings, it’s a stunning theatrical and light-drenched space to continue Red Spice Road’s evolution and the complete sensory experience that the restaurant creates. Blending the old with the new, the iconic red lantern, and Mike Eleven wall murals will be referenced in a new form at the new location and the jaw-dropping David Bromley artworks will be relocated from the McKillop Street space. The new venue is scheduled to open September 2019.
