Mamasita celebrates World Vegan Day on 1 November

Mamasita will toss out its regular menu for the day this World Vegan Day as the venue transforms into a 100% vegan food and beverage offering

Diners can feast on a five-course ‘feed me’ menu ($55 dinner; $49 lunch), a seven-course  ‘World Vegan Day celebration menu’ ($69) or order à la carte.

Vegan dishes on the day will include the likes of ceviche de betabel (pictured above) – steamed beetroot cured in lime and jalapeños with spring onion and blood orange and watermelon tostada – fresh watermelon, lime juice, soy sauce and guacamole. One of the desserts will be tres leches – Mexican vanilla-infused sponge soaked in tres leches (coconut milk, macadamia milk, almond milk) with toasted almond and ancho praline, and salted coconut and mango sorbet, created by Head Chef Martin Zozaya.

Vegan cocktails, beers and wines will also be available to be paired with the menu or to be ordered individually from the revised beverage list. Cocktails to choose from will include the Cucumber Jalapeño – Herradura Plata, cucumber, jalapeño and chilli salt, or the Pink Punch – grilled pineapple-infused Estancia Raicilla, grapefruit and Jamaica hibiscus.

“Mexico has notoriously been a carnivore’s paradise but with the uprise of veganism over the past few years, its capital city now boasts many venues offering vegan options, some of which are exclusively vegan. Last year in Los Angeles, a vegan taco won the legendary LA Taco Award, otherwise known as the best taco in Los Angeles. A mean feat given the countless incredible taco offerings. We’ve decided to pay homage to this movement for World Vegan Day, which also highlights the versatility of Mexican cuisine so people can experience a menu they won’t be familiar with,” says owner Matt Lane.

Mamasita has offered vegan options since its inception in 2010 but this is the first time it’s offered an exclusively 100% vegan service.
