From Thursday, 19 March 2020, Gerard’s Bar (Fortitude Valley, Brisbane) will introduce an entirely new menu
Executive Chef Adam Wolfers has spent the last 8 months settling into the bar’s sister venue Gerard’s Bistro, garnering national acclaim for his vegetable-led Middle Eastern-style cuisine. Now he has turned his focus to the bar.
The completely new menu will be the first Adam has introduced at Gerard’s Bar and will offer a selection of pared-back, Middle Eastern-style grazing dishes, designed for sharing. The completion of the menu fortifies the connection with Gerard’s Bistro across the lane.
Adam’s menu is a journey of flavours influenced by his travels, his Jewish heritage and the various restaurants that he has worked in throughout his career. There is also a hands-on connection to owner Johnny Moubarak’s Lebanese heritage, with his mother Salwa’s family favourite flatbreads, or Saj bread, on offer. Traditional Middle Eastern dishes are accentuated by seasonal produce through a menu largely cooked in the custom-built wood-fired oven. This includes a selection of mezze such as chickpea miso hummus, wagyu basturma, aged tahini and Middle Eastern cheeses like shanklish, camel milk feta and labne all served with freshly baked wood-fired laffa bread. Some of the more substantial offerings include freshly baked wood-fired cheese or meat manoushe and pita kebabs including chicken, toum, pickles, zhug and falafel, toum, tahini, cabbage. There are also snacks such as swordfish falafel, tahini, onions and fried kibbeh, gherkin, muhamurra. Finish off with traditional desserts including rose, Turkish delight and labne malabi, strawberries.
Opened in 2014 and situated across the lane from Gerard’s Bistro, Gerard’s Bar stands alone as a destination in its own right. The new menu and updated interiors have evolved the bar into a more elegant and intimate destination. A sleek, polished concrete bar runs the entire length of the venue, while warm wooden and leather elements lend contrasting softness.
Guests can make the most of the warm climate on the spacious front deck and enjoy signature cocktails such as Gerard’s G&T (Beefeater gin, elderflower, tonic syrup, lemon, soda water) or Delightful Turk (Absolut vodka, cocoa white, orange blossom, rose water, watermelon, rhubarb, lemon-milk clarification). The extensive cocktail and premium spirits list is accompanied by a focused wine and beer selection championing Australian producers and brewers and highlighting some great regions and varieties of the world, but also providing guests with the opportunity to explore new producers and growers.
