G&M 2016 'Restaurant of the Year'

Lûmé, South Melbourne

Although it is only just over a year old, Lûmé has taken fine dining to another level. On entering the former burlesque club, diners are immersed in a sophisticated experience that appeals to lovers of creative, technically excellent contemporary cuisine and exceptional wine pairings.

Head Chef Shaun Quade’s incredibly detailed menu proudly displays the vast talent of his kitchen team, and the dishes cleverly walk the fine line between respecting classic techniques and pushing the envelope of culinary experimentation to the very limit. It makes for a thrilling and theatrical dining adventure unlike any other. Add to this the incomparable front-of-house staff, for whom nothing is too much trouble, and there can be no doubt that Lûmé is one of Australia’s – indeed, one of the world’s – most remarkable restaurants. Gault&Millau Australia has scored Lûmé an astounding 19/20, making it one of the few 5-hatted restaurants in Australia. The score reflects the quality of the produce used, the ingenuity of the dishes, the superior service and the incredible ambience, as well as the fact that all of the pieces of the culinary puzzle fit together seamlessly.

It is our Lavazza 2016 Restaurant of the Year, so whether you’re a chef, sommelier or a passionate foodie, Lûmé should be on your bucket list.
