The brassiere and bar is set to open this June with award-winning Executive Chef Alexis Besseau showcasing classic French dishes with a modern twist.
Pelicano’s director Andrew Becher is excited to unveil his latest project, Franca, an elegant yet casual modern brassiere and bar in Potts Point, with executive chef Alexis Besseau (ex-Bather’s Pavilion and est.) heading the kitchen and Alex Cameron as partner and general manager.
Located on the ground floor of the Ikon building, where Fratelli Fresh resided, Franca will bear little resemblance to the former space when it opens its doors in June 2019, after an extensive renovation by leading design firm Steel and Stitch. Franca’s name is derived from Lingua Franca, a common language used between people who did not speak one another's native tongue in the Mediterranean.

Led by an impressive line up of talent including executive chef Alexis Besseau, group bars manager Alex Raclet (ex Rockpool Group and Pelicano) and sommelier Ambroise Moriceau (ex-Rosetta), Franca’s impressive dining offering will span a variety of cities and regions, from Paris to Nice, Provence to Normandy and neighbouring Mediterranean coasts, offering a re-mastery of traditional and some signature dishes.
The bar will also be a destination in its own right, serving a cocktail list created by prize-winning Alex Raclet, taking cues from grand European destinations, whilst paying homage to the best local seasonal ingredients. The temperature controlled wine room will play host to a two hundred and fifty strong wine list, focusing on French, Australian and New Zealand wines and champagnes.
“Our focus for Franca will be to offer outstanding food and exceptional service in an upmarket setting and still be very comfortable and relaxed,” said Andrew Becher.
