A1 Canteen Pasta Deals and A1 & Friends Clambake! Plus a DIY Homewares Pop-Up

There's lots of activity at Chippendale’s The Old Clare Hotel for the rest of August

MakerSpace & Co in The Old Clare’s Bottle Shop

This August, The Old Clare Hotel invites DIY gurus MakerSpace & Co to collaborate on an interactive pop-up retail and workshop space for one week only, followed by a one-day market activated across the hotel. MakerSpace & Co are the ultimate hands-on DIY experts, with an agenda to build a culture of innovation and excellence in Australian design, and strengthening community ties.

The pop-up store, situated in The Old Clare’s Bottle Shop exhibition space, will feature bespoke items for sale by various Australian designers that are worth “making space” in your home for. There will be pieces from several ceramicists, including Remy Pajaczkowski-Russell, Murray Topham and EJ Son; intricate hand-painted porcelain ceramic dog bowls by Natalie Levy; and a range of vases, vessels and tableware. The pop-up store will be open to the public from 15–26 August and retail hours are: 12–7pm on Thurs 15, Fri 16, Sat 17 & Thurs 22, Fri 23, Sat 24, Sun 25 (with the market 9am–4pm).

The one-day-only market will be on Sunday 25 August from 9am–4pm. The market, a first for The Old Clare Hotel, will encourage guests to peruse the local, ethically made wares, as well as learn from designers and take part in hands-on workshops. There will DJs and wheel-throwing ceramicists, screen printing, live watercolour painting and more still to be announced. The market stalls will see the ground floor of the hotel come to life with stalls outside Clare Bar. Bar snacks and drinks will be available from 12pm.

Continuing the partnership, MakerSpace & Co will be hosting a series of workshops that will all come together with a DIY Dinner Series on The Old Clare’s rooftop. The dinner will be held on 24 September, where guests can exchange their own DIY tips and learnings from the workshop/s they attended. Classes by MakerSpace & Co include making a 2-seater screen-printed wooden bench ($300); hand-making wooden handle carving knives ($575); and creating a ceramic dinner plate set and serving bowls ($375).
